One Voice Mail for Business, Home & Cell
The Wall St. Journal wrote an article on voice mail consolidation describing how we can aggregate our business phone service, home & mobile voicemails into one. I don't know that I want to do this since I get calls from different people in different contexts. However, having the ability to check voicemails from my iPhone that is consolidated is helpful. However, I do appreciate a different greeting for each one since I do want a professional greeting for business and maybe a more casual one for my home.
The article mentions Google Voice. It is an interesting product but I doubt it will be flexible enough for business voip users and I don't know much about it since it was "relaunched" in March, there is no way to sign up for the service. The concern with Google Voice is that I would be given a new phone number that I would be required to distribute. This kind of negates the whole benefit and most folks today give their mobile number as their personal number anyways. I can easily port this now among the many mobile providers.
Either way, the article brings to light an important and helpful possibility. A consolidated visual voicemail on my mobile phone. One click and I can instantly have all my voicemails in one place. Now, that would be great.
